Media, Film and Book Reviews

I write book reviews, film reviews, and general thoughts on what I’m reading and watching. In the future I would like to expand on the types of posts I write, stay tuned for what that might look like.

Available for collaborations and ARCS. Please see the contact page to get in touch! If you’re interested in hiring someone to proofread, edit or review your essays, book or novel, please check out my Ko-fi page.

Disclaimer

Everything posted on this blog is my own work and my own opinion. Please do not copy without my written consent. Though I may occasionally (though have not yet) read and review an ARC or other content by emerging writers, I do so purely of my own accord, because it might align with my tastes or my values. I write honest reviews.

Review Policy

There are a few ways I judge a book: writing style, language, plot devices, depth of character, ability to move the story forward, tone, messaging, and how much any of that actually impacted me.

For movies I might look at cinematography, directing, acting, characters, story, music, sound design and general vibe/feeling.

If something is a 4 I really liked it, and if it’s more than that it’s gone beyond my expectations. I think of 3’s as average, and 2.5’s as having probably a single thing I enjoyed while letting me down in most other ways. I’ve as yet rated anything with a 1, but it would have to be really awful.

As of January 2023, I’ve stopped giving my pieces a numbered rating. I may bring this back later, but at the moment it feels better not to do that.

Affiliates

My affiliates have tended to change over the months and years that this blog has been active, but you can notice them by the banners at the top or bottom of the page, and the links near the end of posts. An affiliate means that when you click an outbound link I have included and make a purchase there is a tiny percentage that goes to me, but with no extra charge for you. That said, I don’t always advertise in my posts and sometimes I link things just for easier access to the reader.

Not an Amazon-Friendly Blog. Pro Harper Collins Union.

I thought I would mention this right off the bat. You will not see Amazon or The Book Depository advertised on this page, and if you’re published directly through Amazon I likely won’t be working with you. This is a personal choice, by someone who would like the book landscape to move away from being run by one billionaire and to keep small presses and small book stores alive.

About the Writer

I graduated with a BA in English Literature from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada back in 2020. Since then I’ve done a little bit of freelancing and taken courses on SEO and Publishing. I also love photography and try to incorporate my photos into my blog posts and IG posts as much as possible. I’m currently working on a ‘zine, a poetry chapbook/anthology, and some essays.
